West Hill Park School and Ryde School with Upper Chine are delighted to introduce the Ramsay Award, a prestigious sailing Scholarship for talented current Year 6 pupils aspiring to join West Hill Park in Year 7 and Ryde School in Year 9.
Named in honour of Alastair Ramsay, former West Hill Park Headmaster, Governor at Ryde School and passionate sailor, the Ramsay Award celebrates young sailors who demonstrate commitment, progression and potential within the sport.
Successful candidates who meet the scholarship criteria may be awarded a continued scholarship through years 7 & 8 at West Hill Park, and right through Ryde School to the Upper Sixth Form, as long as the scholarship criteria continue to be met.
Additional opportunities for support include:
- The opportunity to apply for a means-tested bursary for Years 7 and 8 at West Hill Park School and at Ryde School from Year 9
- A one-off £500 award from the Old Westhillian Association to support sailing activities and development
- Access to the Ryde School Sailing Scholarship programme from Year 9 Scholarship Application Requirements
Applicants will be asked to submit:
- A reference from a sailing captain, Commodore or race officer from their local sailing club, outlining the candidate’s sailing skills, experience and ability
- A record of results from national or reputable local competitions, demonstrating continuity, commitment and progression across multiple regattas or races
- A written statement (maximum one typed page) detailing current sailing experience, alongside personal goals, ambitions and future aspirations within the sport
The Ramsay Award seeks to support and inspire the next generation of young sailors, encouraging excellence both on and off the water. Applications will be judged simultaneously by both West Hill Park and Ryde School, with joint awards being made. Interested parties can complete the google from here.
